We are a peer run and all volunteer non-profit organization. We operate along with the help from our long-standing medical advisor Dr. Alvin Michaels, M.D. Our meetings offer individuals challenged with depressive disorders an open and sympathetic atmosphere to talk with one another. Family and friends are also welcome.

Remember, "What is said here, stays here." Exceptions to confidentiality will occur when and if someone's safety is in question.

Attendance at DBSA Metro Detroit Support Group activities is a privilege, not a right. Threatening or demeaning behavior may result in temporary or permanent removal from all DBSA Metro Detroit activities.

We encourage you to become a member of DBSA Metro Detroit. A subscription to our newsletter, Life In Balance, comes with your membership. The sales of Life In Balance make up most of DBSA Metro Detroit's income. If finances are a concern, complimentary subscriptions are available.

Guidelines for DBSA support group members

  1. We respect the rights of other members of the group.
  2. We respect the concept of confidentiality: "Who you see here, What you hear here, Let it stay here."
  3. One person talks at a time; group members do not interrupt or give suggestions when someone else is talking.
  4. We speak about what is of concern to us, using "I" statements and basing our comments and suggestions on our own personal experience.
  5. We do not use profanity, insults, threatening behavior or sexually explicit language.
  6. We do not use drugs or alcohol prior to the meeting.
  7. We give no advice on medication. We know we are all different.
  8. No one is required to talk. We can pass.
  9. We strive to be non-judgmental and learn from others' experiences.
  10. We give positive feedback whenever possible after members share.
  11. We are proud that we can play a contributing role in the group and look for ways that we can help its development.
